Huntsville Roofing Companies Fight Shortage of Asphalt Shingles

The Huntsville Times had an article on Monday 7/6 about Huntsville roofing companies and the problems they're having because of a shortage of asphalt shingles. The shortage has come about in large part due to the national stimulus plan, which involves a lot of road projects all over America. This has driven up the demand for asphalt, making it harder to get shingles. On top of that, the hail storm that hit Huntsville back in April damaged hundreds of roofs, meaning that demand is way up in this area for asphalt shingles. It's a classic case of low supply and high demand, and it has affected the Huntsville roofing market in a couple of ways. For one thing, prices have gone up. A few months ago, a square of shingles was $73; now it's $78. That's assuming you can get them. A lot of times, there are none to be had, or at least none that match the color on a particular roof. That leads to the second effect, which is an awful lot of Huntsville homeowners having to wait to get their roof repaired.

Huntsville Roofing: A Growing Industry

The Huntsville roofing blog has been started in order to discuss all things applicable to the roofing industry in Huntsville, Alabama. It's new, and I'm writing it all by myself, along with the rest of my blogs, but I'll try to put up new content as soon as it crosses my inbox. Huntsville is thriving, and roofing contractors are a big part of the area's economic success, so it's necessary that somebody start writing about the industry. Well, that somebody is me.
